\nThe District Local Government Organization of Larnaka (DLGOL) proceeded today, 18 November 2024, with the signing of the Construction Contract \u201cFlood Protection Works in the Kamares Area of Larnaka\u201d with the contractor company \u201cIACOVOU BROTHERS (CONSTRUCTIONS) LTD\u201d, within the framework of Tender No. SAL 24\/2023.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe implementation of the project aims to address flood risks in the residential areas of the Municipalities of Larnaka and Aradippou through the execution of necessary flood protection works in the Kamares area. The works concern the management of flood flows of the watercourses within the catchment area of the Kalo Chorio River, which caused significant problems during the flooding events of 13 December 2014.\n<\/p>\n

\nIn summary, the project includes the following works:\n<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \nDemolition of the existing channel and construction of a new open rectangular concrete channel, including adjustments to the upstream earthen channel.\n<\/li>\n
  2. \nDemolition and reconstruction of the Dryadon Street bridge with a wider and deeper cross-section.\n<\/li>\n
  3. \nReconstruction of the section between Dryadon Street and Limassol Avenue with a new open channel along a modified alignment.\n<\/li>\n
  4. \nConstruction of a new bridge on Limassol Avenue, east of the existing one.\n<\/li>\n
  5. \nReconstruction of Larisis Street and construction of a new bridge.\n<\/li>\n
  6. \nRemoval of the embankment near the Kamares Monument and construction of a pedestrian bridge, along with riverbed formation works.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \nThe project, with a total cost of \u20ac6,436,000, is funded by the Republic of Cyprus. Works are scheduled to commence in January 2025 and are expected to be completed within 30 months, by July 2027.\n<\/p>\n

    \nThe signing of the Agreement took place at the Creativity and Culture Centre. The event was attended by representatives of the contracting company, consulting engineers, the Mayor of Larnaka, the Mayor of Aradippou, members of the DLGOL Council, municipal councillors, Members of Parliament, representatives of the Larnaka District Administration, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, and other officials.\n<\/p>\n
