The President of the District Local Government Organization of Larnaka (DLGOL), Mr. Angelos Hadjicharalambous, held an informative meeting with media representatives in Larnaka, during which he expressed his appreciation for their long-standing support and cooperation, as well as for their significant contribution to promoting the work of the Organization.

During the meeting, Mr. Hadjicharalambous emphasized that the main objective of DLGOL is to upgrade the services provided and to ensure continuous public information through the media. He also extended his wishes for a Happy New Year to the journalists and expressed confidence that 2025 will be a year of significant developments for Larnaka.

Targets of the District Local Government Organization of Larnaka

The President referred to the progress of the Organization, noting that six months after its establishment, it has recorded clearly improved results, as reflected in its performance indicators. He highlighted the collective effort of the Board of Directors, Management and staff, who work in a spirit of cooperation to ensure the smooth operation of the Organization.

Mr. Hadjicharalambous also reiterated the Organization’s commitment to becoming a strong and sustainable institution that will serve as a source of pride for the citizens of Larnaka. He stressed the importance of strengthening staffing levels in order to enhance efficiency and achieve even better results.

Challenges for 2025

He further pointed out that the main challenge for 2025 is to increase efficiency in the licensing sector, particularly in relation to faster permit issuance. He underlined the importance of simplifying application review procedures and referred to actions such as strengthening the licensing department and cooperating with external partners to improve the process.

Water Supply and Management of Losses

In the water supply sector, Mr. Hadjicharalambous noted that the inclusion of new municipalities and communities has increased water loss issues due to aging infrastructure. He added that, despite drought and water scarcity challenges, and considering the existence of two desalination plants in the Larnaka District, no water cuts are expected to be imposed.

Sewerage and Flood Protection Projects

Particular reference was made to sewerage and flood protection projects, as well as to the Organization’s contribution to environmental protection through the full recycling of biological sludge and the use of reclaimed water for irrigation.
