The Larnaka District Local Government Organization inaugurated yesterday, 4 November, the Trulloi Green Point of the Municipality of Aradippou, which is one of the seven Green Points in the Larnaka District.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mrs. Maria Panayiotou, the President of the Larnaka District Local Government Organization, Mr. Angelos Hadjicharalambous, the Mayor of Aradippou, Mr. Christodoulos Partou, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Environment, Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou, Members of Parliament and other distinguished guests.

In his address, the President of the Larnaka District Local Government Organization, Mr. Angelos Hadjicharalambous, stated: “As the Larnaka District Local Government Organization, we have undertaken the operation and management of the Trulloi Green Point, a project that enhances the environmental infrastructure of the area, serves neighbouring communities, and strengthens the network of Green Points in the Larnaka District.”

Mr. Hadjicharalambous emphasized that the Organization fully recognizes the need to reduce waste generation and address the uncontrolled disposal of household waste. “For this reason, we aim to promote responsible recycling and increase the number of Green Points. The upgrading of the temporary Larnaka Green Point into a permanent facility is part of this strategy,” he added.

He also encouraged citizens to actively contribute by making use of the Green Points, choosing to transport their household waste to the nearest accessible facility, thereby laying the foundations for a cleaner and more prosperous Larnaka.

It is noted that the project entitled “Improvement and Expansion of the National Network of Green Points and Creation of Collection Points and Recycling Corners” was implemented by the Water Development Department – Solid Waste Management Service (SWMS) and is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). The Larnaka – Famagusta Development Company has been managing the Green Points of Larnaka since May 2020 on behalf of the Larnaka – Famagusta Household Waste Disposal Sites Operation Council until 30/06/2024, and from 01/07/2024 on behalf of the DLGOL.
