The two-day workshop held on 19 and 20 November 2024 between the engineering team of the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYATH) and the engineers of the District Local Government Organization of Larnaka (DLGOL) was successfully completed.
The presence of the EYATH engineers provided an important opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, views and best practices, with the aim of improving the services provided and strengthening cooperation in the fields of wastewater and water management.
The President of DLGOL, Mr. Angelos Hadjicharalambous, welcomed this initiative, emphasizing that the cooperation between DLGOL and EYATH, within the framework of the signed Memorandum of Understanding, opens new prospects for future synergies that will enhance the services of both organizations.
During the workshop, key topics were presented, including wastewater treatment processes, reclaimed water management, the use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), reduction of energy footprint, and projects funded under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. In addition, DLGOL’s actions regarding the new European Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive were discussed, with particular emphasis on strategies for digitalization and system automation to ensure efficient maintenance and infrastructure management.
Participants expressed their willingness to further develop collaborations, exploring additional opportunities for improvement through the exchange of expertise and experience.
